Spotlight on Sujeiry Gonzalez: Multimedia Entertainer

Share this:

Career and Professional Information:  I wear many hats so I call myself a Multimedia Entertainer. More specifically, I am a writer, comedic actress, host, vlogger, blogger, visionary consultant and then some! I am the sole contributor for my website, LoveSujeiry.com, and also edit the content, promote the site and its many giveaways and entertaining stories, and, last but not least, manage the social media. Somehow, I also find time to freelance for a variety of websites and entertainment companies, including Latina.com, LLero.net, SiTV, Tiki Tiki Blog, MiGente and Mamiverse. Aside from writing, I create sketch comedies and kooky characters that become an extension of my personality. Ms. Peo is a funny, Dominican astrologer who has a fuzzy connection with the astrological Gods and is constantly fighting with her philandering husband, Mr. Peo. Cui Dense Pendejos is a feisty elderly Dominican woman who is also a bochinchera. She loves gossiping about the latest Hollywood breakups to makeups. There is also Lola AKA Luscious, a saucy young woman from Fordham who loves her baby Tito, and, of course, who can forget S.Jeiry – a tough yet sensitive woman who has had many heartbreaks and loves to sing about them…angrily.

Aside from the creative aspect of my day, I consult with bloggers who want to take their blog to the next level. Currently, I am working with a partner to offer Love Your Online Brand, a 2-day all-intensive bootcamp where we will help you take you through the process of finding your online voice and creating the digital platform to distribute your content.

Degrees You Hold: Masters of Arts in Writing from Rowan University;  Bachelors of Arts in Communication/Minor in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherrt.

Country of Origin or Family Heritage:  I was born and raised in NYC till I was 12 years old and then my family, including myself, moved to Lawrence, MA. We moved back to New York City after a 10 year hiatus in suburbia, and, take it from me, it was not easy to readjust. I left my friends and what I felt was home in MA, but now I am happy we returned. New York City is so diverse and has a multitude of opportunities for writers. I don’t know if I would’ve known all the wonderful creative people that I have encountered and befriended if I lived elsewhere.

Professional/Social Achievements: I was so proud to have my first piece published that I actually printed and framed the article. It was called “When Bad Girls Attack” and it was the beginning of my experience as a paid dating and relationship writer. I received a handsome compensation for the article and, from there, my career took off. Soon, I was MiGente.com’s Online Relationship Columnist. My biweekly column, Love Trips, was a hit and I was so excited to come into my own. Still, there were a few goals I yearned to accomplish, like writing for Latina Magazine, meeting Alisa Valdes, author of the Dirty Girls Social Club, and publishing my own book.

In 2009, I was contacted by Latina.com’s Lifestyle’s Editor and offered the role of Latina.com’s resident dating blogger. In October of this year, I will meet Alisa Valdes as she is the keynote speaker for the Latina Lifestyle Bloggers group conference in Las Vegas — a group that I am also co-moderator of. As for that published book, I am currently working on finishing a collection of personal essays based on my romantic relationships, and hoping that Love Trips (the book) will be coming to a bookstore near you!

Who Has Inspired You to Be Your Best? My sister, Adayna Gonzalez, has inspired me to be a responsible and dedicated worker. At times, I haven’t felt very confident with my work ethic, though I have always known I am a talented writer and entertainer. But my sister – she is a rock star! She has broken down barriers and crashed through the glass ceiling that often holds Latinas back in the corporate world. As a Vice President for Citigroup, she is a great example of leadership and hard work.

25 Million Latinas and Counting! Your thoughts? That is amazing! I am all about female empowerment, which is why LoveSujeiry.com promotes Pepa Power™! The more united we are as Latinas, the more we will succeed as a gender and cultura.

Countries You Have Visited and Your Favorite One:  I have visited the Dominican Republic, which is my mother and fathers homeland, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Mexico. My favorite country thus far has to be Aruba. The beaches are a beautiful and picturesque turquoise blue and the people are simply amazing. Everyone is so genuinely friendly. I also can never forget Aruba as I conquered my fear of deep water on the island when I went snorkeling. One last thing about Aruba – it’s a desert island! It is surrounded by water yet there are cactus and dry land everywhere! I love the contradiction.

Describe a Perfect Day Off From Work:  A perfect day off from work would comprise of sleep and vacationing on an island. I love the beach and I love to unwind. Sometimes I turn off my chipper social side and hibernate in my home, watching reality tv shows and comedies. Doing nothing can feel so good, especially when my days are filled with 10-12 hours of work.

What Has Been Your Biggest Challenge in Life? My biggest challenge has been my indecision, which stirs inside me due to self-doubt and fear of failure. Working as a creative professional full time is not always the most stable way to go financially. Sometimes you have a great contract while other times you are searching for gigs. It is a challenge to not know when your next paycheck is coming from or when it is coming. So the indecision and fear kicks in and I abandon my creative work to focus on a job that’s steady, even if I know it’s not for long term or for me. Luckily, I never give up. I always come back to what I love, which is creating, and I have all the confidence and faith in the world that it will be enough.

What is Your Next Big Dream? My next HUGE dream is two-fold. I want to publish Love Trips (the book), which, as I stated earlier, is a collection of personal essays based on my online relationship column. From there, I want to take the show and create a web or television series around it. Big dreams for a big heart and drive!
