Name of organization and where it is based? The name of my organization is iOpening Enterprises and it is based in New York, NY.

Describe yourself and why you decided to create this organization. With a background in psychology and acting, I believed that education and entertainment could be powerful tools for creating personal and collective change for those going through some of life’s biggest transitions: teens and young adults. While completing my doctorate degree in clinical psychology, I discovered that my love for learning about the human story extended to writing about it as well. With a background in film acting, writing was a natural progression for me, and at 25, I published my first book The Dawn of Generation Why. While the book provides entertaining short stories, provocative poems, and intriguing narratives about how young adults can transition into independent living in a healthy way, I felt a book did not go far enough.  To compliment the themes of the book, I developed several workshops that helped teens and young adults develop tangible skills to cope with stress, communicate with others effectively, and plan for the future wisely.  It was from these initial projects, iOpening Enterprises was born.  A creative writing firm specializing in writing the most entertaining stories for teens and young adults, and converting themes from these stories into workshops that leave young people enlightened on how to better themselves and the world around them.

Mission of the organization and who it aims to help. The mission of iOpening Enterprises is to create enlightening stories geared toward teenagers and young adults that are told through the most entertaining books, films, and workshops worldwide. We are committed to telling stories that are important, but ensuring they are told in the most entertaining manner.  Neither story substance nor entertainment will be sacrificed. Furthermore, we are committed to creating stories that not only help people better understand themselves, but also give them an opportunity to support community causes by purchasing our products.  A percentage of iOE profits are donated to non-profit organizations targeting issues related to iOE stories. In addition, iOE is committed to using unique and fresh story characters to extend the possibilities of who can represent the face of commercially mainstream stories.  For this reason, iOE strives to create stories with lead characters from a diversity of cultural backgrounds that face common challenges relatable to all people.

Describe a little bit about the program. Here are a few of iOpening Enterprises main objectives.

  • Create books that speak to the teenage and young adult experience that can be used in classroom or community based setting to begin meaningful discussions.
  • Conduct 1-2 hour workshops that focus on transitioning in and out of school in healthy ways (high school and college) – and which are fun!
  • Provide speakers that are able to keynote or conduct specialized workshops ranging from young men seminars to gifted and talented student events.
