OK, so you’ve tried everything to lose those sticky pounds: bypassing the elevator and going up 5 flights of stairs; attending boring meetings at Weight Watchers; and using your baby as a curl bar. You’ve even tried your mom’s secret recipe drink, full of strange roots and a funny smell. Pero no nada. The scale shows the same number it did last month, and last year, and maybe the year before.
What to do? Have you tried becoming aware of what you’re eating, all day? You’ll be hugely surprised to see how much and the type of food we ingest in a 24-hour period. I mean, it is truly eye-opening to see in writing how much “stuff” we put in our mouths over the course of the day. And yet, we wonder why we haven’t lost a pound.
Before you start any diet, which should preferably be a lifestyle change, you should come to terms with how much food and calories you’re consuming every day. Moreover, learn what types of foods are keeping you from reaching your weight and fitness goals. With this information, you’ll be better equipped to tackle your particular diet problems with the right strategies.
To unveil your denial, you can make a list of what you eat — from the smallest candy to the largest deluxe burger with fries. If you don’t love keeping a list (who has time to find a piece of paper and pen these days?), you can also use a calorie counter to help you record, count and keep track of your daily caloric intake.
MyFitnessPal iPhone App
When you have kids, work, and life is full, you don’t have time (or the memory) to keep track of what you eat. In fact, often times we don’t even realize we’re eating until the plate is empty and we find ourselves looking for more.
I found the perfect little gadget for keeping track of my calorie intake and recording what I eat daily. I had to share it with you, my amigas. It is the MyFitnessPal iphone App. Yes, unfortunately it’s only for iPhone users, but I’m sure there are equivalent apps for other smart phone users.
MyFitnessPal App can:
- Calculate how many calories to consume, based on your weight loss goals
- Count your daily calorie consumption
- Set a daily calorie goal
- Record your daily food and exercise to keep you on track
The best part for me, is being able to record it right on my iPhone. It’s the one item I carry with me everywhere.
Something interesting occurs when begin to learn how many calories is in a bagel, or a cup of orange juice — you begin to gain awareness and this insight helps you make better choices the next time.
