Meet Sandy Dias, the foreman of the Hott and Handy construction crew featured in Style Network’s new home renovation show, “Built.”
A former airplane technician, Sandy watched his modeling career take flight after several people approached him about his model good looks while he was working at New York’s LaGuardia airport. Before he knew it, Sandy was the face (and body) of Hugo Boss, Neiman Marcus, Mercedes-Benz, Brunello Cucinelli, and Tommy Hilfiger campaigns. While at a casting call for a modeling gig, fellow model Shane Duffy approached Sandy about joining his Hott and Handy construction crew, and the rest, as they say, is history!
A natural-born leader, Sandy keeps the Hott and Handy crew on task and ensures that their work looks just as good as the crew does! “If I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it to the fullest. If I can’t excel at it, then there’s no point in me doing it. Hott and Handy isn’t going to put their name on something we can’t do well.” But creating perfection isn’t easy. Sandy shares that some of Hott and Handy’s clients have been a bit more challenging than others, with one client even requesting that the crew hand-cut every single tile being used in a project, and another demanding that the guys paint—and repaint—a texture that only exists in approximately 1% of household designs. However, despite crazy client demands, the crew proves that they are much more than pretty faces. “We’re not cutting corners. The [design] transformations are just amazing. Don’t just judge us on our faces–judge our work.”
And their work is truly stunning. From walk-in closet remodels to kitchen renovations, the crew delivers beautifully executed designs that leave clients speechless—proving that they’re not just hot, they are indeed quite handy! Sandy attributes Hott and Handy’s success to their ability to focus on the big picture and ignore all of the naysayers out there. “You’re going to have your haters. They’re going to try and make you believe you can’t do something, but guess what, you can.” Sandy’s advice for New Latina readers facing their fair share of haters, “You can be successful if you really focus on what’s important. If you want to achieve something, then focus on that; don’t worry about the trash that’s out there.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
So busy mujeres, take some time for yourselves this week and be sure to watch Sandy and the rest of the Hott and Handy crew on Style Network’s “Built”. Sandy promises some sizzling story lines and gorgeous home renovations! What’s not to love?
