Lisann ValentinLisann Valentin is no stranger to taking on new and different roles. Valentin, a native New Yorker, already writes, produces, contributes to Latism-NYC, and is a lawyer-turn-actress. So, it comes as no surprise that this driven Latina would jump at the chance to play a ground-breaking role in the independent film, Made From Scratch. The film follows four women in various stages of their lives, all struggling to get out of suffocating ruts.  Valentin’s character, Victoria Alvarado, is a Latina advertising executive who realizes that she is missing out on love, and struggles with her own sexual identity upon returning home to visit her family. Victoria is a character often unseen in the media: Latina, successful and multifaceted.  Valentin says that she is excited and honored to play such a complex and representative character,

“My goal is to bring truth to my characters and to be the best example possible of what women – specifically Latinas – are capable,..The media portrays a limited view of Latinas, yet in real life we are lawyers, doctors, executives, and beyond. Although the tide is slowly turning, that reality is hardly depicted. To get to fulfill that goal is not only an honor – it’s a dream come true.”

Valentin has taken strident steps in representing multifaceted and successful Latinas, having taken on a variety of projects that promote female and Latina empowerment, including her own lifestyle blog  At the moment Valentin is tirelessly promoting Made From Scratch, and raising funds for the film’s production on Valentin says of the film, “People will stand behind this film because it speaks universal truths about women, about family, about sexuality, and about forging our own paths in this life.”  The film is scheduled to begin shooting on location in Atlanta, GA, this November.
