On May 16th, the halls of Columbia University’s Barnard College buzzed with excitement, as the first ever Latinas Think Big™ event, hosted by ELLA Leadership Institute, opened it’s doors.  Women from across the country united in New York City to celebrate the careers of Latinas and start a conversation about advancing women in leadership.

Founder and CEO of ELLA Leadership Institute, Dr. Angelica Perez-Litwin, addressed the crowd in her welcome remarks by sharing the reason for ELLA Institute’s founding and the importance of leadership initiatives for women, and especially for Latinas.

ELLA Leadership Institute takes a comprehensive  approach to career and leadership development by offering strategic and tailored training, consulting and mentoring programs to women seeking career and leadership success, including the LATINAS THINK BIG™ event tour and a National Conference on Latina Leadership.

The Latinas Think Big™ event in New York City featured four presentations from a group of talented and entrepreneurial Latinas who shared their poignant stories and hoped to inspire attendees to take action in their own careers.  Presenters took the stage to share their experiences as rising Latinas and identified their own challenges and what life events inspired them to THINK BIG and take action.

During the four hour event, presenters pointed to self-determination, mentorship and fearlessness as key factors in their own career success.  As part of the event, organizers asked attendees to reveal their own dreams and career goals, as well as what would help them to reach those goals.  Attendees left the event inspired and ready to take action in their own lives and careers.

Throughout the event, LATINAS THINK BIG™ Twitter ambassadors shared their favorite quotes and photos from the event live on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.   The event was also live streamed on Google Plus and YouTube for national visibility.  View the live stream coverage.

The event, which hosted a diverse audience of Latina professionals, students and organizational leaders in health, education, STEM and corporate leadership, welcomed both women and men to ELLA Institute’s premier event on Latina leadership.  From a 16-year-old scientist and innovator, to an entrepreneur, social media expert and Latinas MDs, the room was filled with powerful women and poised for impact.
