Pinterest: The Latest Social Network Obsession
If you’re wondering if we need yet another social media network, you’re not alone. However, Pinterest is in a league all of it’s own. A brilliant idea that’s giving people a refreshing way to do more than “socialize” and connect.
So what makes Pinterest so different and attractive? Several powerful elements. Over the past few years, we have been bombarded with written words: articles, blog posts, e-books, tweets, Facebook updates, etc. Social media has become word-centric. Pinterest, on the other hand, capitalizes on the “visual” — beautiful photos, postcards and videos — quite refreshing to the eyes and the soul.
Let’s not undermine the aspirational component to Pinterest — who doesn’t dream about having that gorgeous house in the glossy front cover of House Beautiful? And what about that pair of funky stilettos with polka dots? You see something you like, want or find interesting, and you “pin” it and share it — brilliant idea!
Aside from the aspirational component, Pinterest is incredibly simple to use. In a world of complicated softwares, plugins and tools, Pinterest comes out a winner as a user-friendly social network.
Last, but certainly not least, is the underlying (but powerful) ability for us to show our personality via the things we like and love. Your Pinterest platform says a lot about YOU — don’t we all want to know more about each other?
