In 2008, I was the CEO of a venture-backed start-up and as stressed as I had ever been in my life. I decided to call in help – in the form of a CEO coach at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
One of her first lessons was how to respect my feelings. I was having a lot of them, but had learned to suppress them as opposed to valuing them. Turns out, suppressing feelings does not make them go away.
My Coach taught me that the simple act of identifying, expressing and managing your emotions can lead to greater self-awareness, improved communication and better relationships.
Her advice was life changing, but I soon discovered it’s not easy to stop and ask yourself on a regular basis how you’re feeling. So, being technology minded, I created a mobile application to help me do just that.
The gottaFeeling mobile application helps users
- identify their feelings using a robust vocabulary of feeling words;
- express their feelings via Facebook, Twitter and email; and
- manage their feelings via reports about where, when and how they have been feeling
The application is currently available for iPhone/iTouch devices in English and Spanish, and can be downloaded for free here.
Please give the application a try and let me know what you think. I hope you will find it useful and recommend it to your friends.
