Galvanizing a New Latina Movement: Angélica Pérez is Guest Speaker at NYC Latino Professionals Meet Up! Join Us!

In March, the Latina Leadership Presentation featured NYCLP member Dr. Damary Bonilla-Rodriguez.  The presentation was based on Dr. Damary Bonilla-Rodriguez’s dissertation, “A Profile of Latina Leadership in the United States: Characteristics, Positive Influences, and Barriers,” in which she identified five categories of the essential characteristics to being an effective Latina leader.  One of the five essential categories was “New Latina.”

Dr. Bonilla-Rodriguez states that “[t]he category of new Latina represents a leader who is able to reconcile her two worlds – her Latina upbringing which taught her to be family and community oriented, and her American life which tells her it is acceptable to be individualistic; someone who challenges historical expectations of Latinas through her leadership example” (p. 117).  I thought this definition captured much of what I see in the professional networking/career development aspects of NYCLP – balancing/transforming our traditional community oriented values with the values of American individualism.  In other words, we can be both community oriented and individualistic, when necessary, to move ourselves and our Latino community forward.

To that end, let’s explore the concept of “New Latina” further with a presentation and Q&A session by Angelica Perez, PhD, the Publisher & CEO or NewLatina.Net.  New Latina is “the online destination on personal empowerment & career success for today’s Latinas.”  It was created by Angelica Perez, PhD, a Latina psychologist and life coach. During the presentation, Dr. Perez will discuss why she created NewLatina.Net, what it means to be a “New” Latina, the mission of behind NewLatina.net, what they do, how they do it, and how they are galvanizing a New Latina movement and community.

“Who’s the New Latina?  Conversations on Bicultural Latinas, Leadership & Success”

Don’t miss out on this powerful presentation that will be helpful to your career and personal development no matter your profession and the stage of your career.
