Ana Tijoux: A French-Born Chilean Rapper, Like No Other

Share this:

Just came across this amazingly talented French-Chilean musician, Ana Tijoux. She’s the daughter of Chilean parents living in political exile in France.  Born in France, she returned to Chile as a teenager (after the return of democracy), where she began to rap in French, then in Spanish.  In the late 1990’s, she became famous as the female MC of the hip hop group Makiza.  A few years later, she left the group and crossed over to Latin mainstream pop in 2006.  Her second solo album, titled 1977, has been nominated for a Grammy’s award (2011).
