America Ferrera is Cosmopolitan for Latinas‘ new cover girl and we here at New Latina couldn’t be more thrilled! In Cosmo for Latinas‘ Fall/Winter issue America shows readers that she is less shy Betty La Fea, and more America, the brave! A passionate political advocate, America has teamed up with Voto Latino to urge young people to register to vote, and rock the vote in this year’s presidential election. An American-born Hondureña, America is dedicated to educating American Latinos about their civic rights and duties, and urging them to let their voices be heard in this year’s election.
America, herself, has developed her own voice, style and taste when it comes to her career and life. In Cosmo for Latinas‘ second issue, America discusses the evolution of her career, her body image and her political interests. America credits her ability to take ownership of situations as her secret to success. Whether she is taking ownership of a coveted role, the skin that she’s in, or her civic responsibilities, America takes it all on with poise, a great sense of humor and a passion to be reckoned with. As she discusses who and what inspires her as an actress, a Latina and a woman, it is easy to see why Cosmo for Latinas has chosen America to be their cover girl—she is truly an inspiration, herself! Having come from humble beginnings, America has stolen our hearts playing outspoken, quirky, and sometimes heart-breakingly honest characters who always break the mold, and has gone on to become the first Latina to ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (for her title role in Ugly Betty). But no matter how far she’s come, she remains grounded, and fiercely dedicated to using her celebrity as a platform to effect political and global change.
When America isn’t touring for her America4America campaign with VotoLatino, she is busy promoting her new film End of Watch which premiered in late September and her documentary Half the Sky, which premieres tonight, October 1, 2012 on PBS at 9pm EST. Funny, fearless and fierce, America Ferrera is focused on pursuing opportunities and roles that she is passionate about, allowing nothing—not even her own insecurities—to get in the way. She advises, “Take your time and your talent and figure out what you have to contribute to this world and get over what the hell your butt looks like in those jeans!” We couldn’t agree more!
We are very proud of America Ferrera and are excited to see what she’ll do next! What do you think about America Ferrera being Cosmo for Latina‘s latest cover girl? Let us know!
